Causes of Commercial Water Damage

While a massive storm can wipe out power lines, flood offices, and shut down businesses for days at a time they aren’t the only causes of flood and water damage. Below are some of the typical causes of water damage to commercial buildings.
- Windows- Water damage can be caused by windows that aren’t properly sealed. It can cause moisture to seep in, which can lead to mold build-up and warped wood and drywall.
- Damaged Pipes- Broken pipes can stem from many reasons, such as changes in pressure, deteriorated water supply lines and sewer drains, and cold weather (freezing temps can cause pipes to burst).
- Malfunctioning Sprinkler Systems- Signs of sprinkler leaks include wet surfaces like drywall and carpets, presence of mold and mildew, and standing water. Sprinklers can definitely come in handy during a fire emergency but they can also cause flood damage if they are faulty.
